Hyenas Could End Up Being A Medicine, But They Can Never Be Your Food

Hyenas Could End Up Being A Medicine, But They Can Never Be Your Food

The African and Asian continents are home to four species of the hyenas. These species of animals have dog like characteristic. They are found mostly in the African savannah. The striped hyena is native to jungles of India and parts of western Asia. Theses scavengers eat what other animals kill rather than getting their own prey.

Hyenas have a typical cackling scream that gives the animal of laughing. It is used to alert other hyenas of the presence of food or a good source of food. The scream is able to spread over an area of three miles.

Hyenas rule the roost when it comes to intelligence.  They often steal the prey from other large carnivores. Their brains are believed to have evolved on similar lines as humans.

The posterior pair of legs of a hyena are always longer than the anterior pair. This gives them a bear like appearance when they stand up on their posterior legs. Some species of hyenas have a striped mane that becomes stiff when they are excited.

The only known predators of hyenas are humans. Hyenas have often been known to attack poultry and wild stock at farmhouses or other places near the jungle. Hyenas have been related to witchcraft and sorcery for a long time. They have been associated with a number of supernatural beings as well. Their body parts ended up being used as ingredients of medicines for a long time.

Hyenas live in groups in dens. A pack of hyenas hunts together aided by its exceptionally strong pair of jaws.
