Gorillas are genetically quite close to humans, and are the biggest members of the family of primates. The DNA of a gorilla's cell is quite similar to that of a human being. They re also related to chimpanzees in a similar manner. They are typical natives of Africa.

Adult members of the species are known to eat up 27 kg of food over a day. their diet comprises of vegetables, fruits, berries and leaves of plants.

It is quite social in nature. It lives in groups of 5-30 gorillas. They spend most of the time eating and sleeping. A lot of time is also spent in grooming fellow gorillas, something they re fond of doing. They weigh a lot. A typical gorilla weighs 100-200 kg. The weight is supported by the knuckles on which they walk.

In terms of intelligence, a gorilla is comparable to a human being or a dolphin. A gorilla bred in captivity was even taught to use sign language. Ability to use language in any form reflects a profound intelligence on a gorilla's part.

Gorillas have all the senses and feelings that humans have. This includes the sense of hearing, sense of taste, touch, ability to smell, and the ability to see things. Gorillas are typically short-sighted, but unlike other animals, they can distinguish between colors.

Gorillas make nests on trees from leaves and other things they can find on trees. They spend the night sleeping in these nests. A typical nest is in the shape of a bowl. Mother gorillas are known to sleep and rest in these nests with their offspring.
