Patagonian Cavy

Patagonian Cavy

If you take a look at this animal you will see that even though it looks exotic and cute it is quite unusual. People consider it as one of the strangest animals in the world.
They are not so popular among people who want to keep them as pets, but they are pretty popular in zoos, because of their atypical looks and because they need special care.
Patagonian Cavies are distant relatives to guinea pigs and if you take a closer look, you will probably say that they resemble rabbits and a deer.

When it comes to their food, they mostly like to eat different vegetables, fresh hay, the grass and leafy greens.
If you want to have Patagonian Cavy as your pet, you need to know that they are not suited for the places where it is cold. In case you still want to have them, even though you live in a colder place, you should at least provide them with some heating lights, because you don’t want them to be frozen.

If we are talking about their behavior, it is important for you to know that they can be tamed if they are raised from a young age. Then they become very sociable and friendly. Even though most people say that they are quite active during the day, some of them are most active during the night, because they want to avoid any human interaction.
When it comes to their health, they have some issues with heart and gastrointestinal problems. So in case you decide to take one as a pet, you should take him to the exotics vet just to make sure that everything is alright.
