You must have read a million articles on why you should get a pet, or how very loyal a dog is, a man’s best friend indeed! But what you will read now will offer yet another perspective for you to consider. The grass is not so green on the other side; not if you take into account the following points :
- They are expensive – Life is already too hard not to mention expensive, what with the recession and the inflation. Will you be able to accommodate a pet too, when you are trying to keep up with your expenses every month? Apart from the obvious costs like dog food and vaccinations, you have to buy dog collars and leashes, and take them for regular check-ups.
- They are time consuming – You will need to devote a lot of time to your pet. Walking it, exercising, playing with it, feeding your furry friend, it will all take time. So unless your job allows you a lot of free time, well, there’s a deal-breaker right there.
- A lot of cleaning will be required – Owning a dog can be messy. You have to deal with all the fur that just keeps falling everywhere, be it your spotless wooden flooring or your plush sofa. Or maybe your pet will not take kindly to going out every time he needs to relieve himself and instead choose to do in inside the house!
- They will change your lifestyle – If you like going out a lot, partying or vacationing, you will have to rethink your plans. You will have to make proper arrangements every time you plan a weekend out.
And then there’s all that licking and sloppy love. You’ll have to keep wipes handy.
